Community Supported Agriculture

Welcome to Sage’s CSA program – which stands for Community Supported Agriculture – and it is the most ethical way to purchase & eat meat … and the tastiest..

So how does it work?? Well the CSA program is a subscription based production supply system in which each subscriber receives a monthly delivery of Beef and / or Lamb directly from the farmer (no middlemen). This helps us to manage risks associated with under or over supply and when fully subscribed can virtually eliminate waste. Over the year – depending on the pack size you subscribe to – you can understand and manage the amount of meat you and your family consumes. At Sage we strongly advocate quality not quantity when it comes to meat consumption.

CSA is also great way for consumers to establish a stronger connection with where their food comes from and as a subscriber you will receive our monthly newsletter with farm updates, product profiles and recipes. In fact – we see it as you becoming a member of our farm including getting 10% discount on our fantastic farmstay accommodation and our Family Farm Visits.

In our view, the current mass marketed, corporately owned intensive farming food production system is broken. It concentrates profits to a few large corporations, at the expensive of animal welfare, real farming jobs, and the environment – whilst not delivering the nutritional benefits we require for a healthy diet – this is what CSA programs address – real food – direct to – real people.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

We offer two subscriptions – 6 month and 12 month, payment options include monthly, 6 months in advance, or annually in advance. Discounts are offered for 6 or 12 advance payments – see below. Six months is the minimum commitment we require for our planning purposes. The subscription can be suspended if you will be away for an extended time, though a full month’s notice must be provided.

Currently each Hub has 20 subscriptions available.

SHARE OPTIONS

Our share options are designed for families of varying sizes and dietary requirements

For Smaller Share Options (2 adults / young children) we recommend,

5 kg Beef OR Lamb, ($125 per month)

6 kg Beef AND Lamb ($140 per month)

For Larger Share Options (2-4 adults / adolescences)

we recommend,

10 kg Beef OR Lamb, ($250 per month)

12 kg Beef AND Lamb ($280 per month)

To understand what this means in regards to actual consumption of animals, an average full grown lamb provides approximately 18 – 20kg of edible meat and an average beef carcass provides approximately 175 – 200kg of edible meat. This equates to the 6 kg subscription consuming approximately 2 full lambs per annum and 1/5 of a beef carcass and the 12kg subscription consuming approximately 4 full lambs per annum and 2/5 of a beef carcass.

Boxes are delivered to nominated hubs once per month – with subscribers picking up their delivery from the “hub”. Each subscriber will receive an email or sms shortly prior to pick-up at which point monthly payment is required – we recommend setting up a regular scheduled bank transfer on the Monday for ease and convenience – or even better – payment in advance to receive the discount rate.

WHAT DO I GET IN MY MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION

Each box will include a selection of cuts. The concept is that over the subscription period, you will get to enjoy all parts of the animal – which is the most ethical way to eat meat – what we call – “being a conscious carnivore”. each pack will include Prime cuts (either eye fillet, scotch fillet, porterhouse or rump, cutlets, back strap, rolled loin),  roasts, mince, stir-fry, diced beef and a rotating selection of other cuts including sausages, kebabs and hamburgers (all gluten free & artificial preservative free) , we will also endeavour to meet special requests where possible. We put our premium beef and lamb into our packs, all are expertly cut by our butcher – who has a flair and passion of artisan butchery.

Box composition changes regularly depending on seasonal cooking & cuts.
The CSA pricing model incorporates delivery to nominated hubs – deliveries outside of hubs will incur a separate delivery fee of $20 (if within 15km of a designated Hub.
